Career Highs and Active Streaks Headlines Second Half Athletes 11/15-22/15

Sophomore guard Jaaron Simmons scored a career-high 30 points for the Ohio Bobcats, setting career highs in field goals made (8) and field goals attempted (16). He also sank 12-of-16 free throw attempts. Simmons dished out a game-high eight assists in addition to hauling in five rebounds over 38 minutes of work against. Despite the Ohio having a 17-point halftime lead, the Ohio men's basketball team could not hold off a second-half surge by the opposition, falling to Tulsa 90-88, on Friday (Nov. 20) in their opening game of the 2015 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. However they were able to knock the opposition (Norfolk State) in their second game of the 2015 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam 93-71. Simmons had his first career double-double with 11 points and 13 assist. Ohio plays Florida State today a 4pm in their final game at Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
Junior forward Devin Williams scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help his 23rd-ranked West Virginia to an 86-73 victory over James Madison in their first contest last week. He extended his double-double streak to three games, scoring a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds and four assists in 103-62 win over Stetson.  WVU back in action tonight and will host Bethune-Cookman (offered second half athlete Corry Long) in the second tournament game.
In the third game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, two top mid-major programs met in search of their first win. It was the Terriers of Wofford who edged the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore 73-63, pulling away at the very end despite the Hawks’ solid inside game and high shooting percentage. Freshman guard Ahmad Frost made his second start of the season scoring p points shooting 3-4 from the field in 20 minutes of play. UMES will play their final game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic and their home opener on Tuesday against Fairfield.
 After a very hot start to the seasoning scoring 18 and 19 in his first two games, freshman guard Elijah Pughsley couldn’t manage to make a field goal against High Point. He was 0-7 from the field (0-6 from 3) as WCU dropped to High Point. Pughsley and WCU are back at home tomorrow and take on Hiwassee.
In both games this past week sophomore guard, Angel Rivera, led his team in assist. In their first game with less than 10 second remaining in the game Rivera’s teammate floater from six feet was blocked, and he (Angel Rivera) rebounded in the lane but missed a put-back and The Citadel eventually came out victorious with a 94-93 victory over Stetson. Rivera finished with 5 points and 5 assist. in a 103-62 loss Rivera had 4 points and 5 assist.

Grayson's First Offer

17' Wyoming G Lonnie Grayson has been offered. The offer is his first and comes from Ashland University. Ashland is located just north of Columbus Ohio. They are a NCAA Division 2 program and competes in one of the top division 2 conferences (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The Ashland Eagles finished 19-10 (13-9 GLIAC) last season. They are currently 2-0 and play at home tomorrow and take on Silver Lake. The Eagles are lead by John Ellenwood in his 7th year as head coach.
Grayson averaged 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assist for Wyoming last year. He was the conference player of the year (Cincinnati Hills League) and a division 2 first team all district player. He also was AP Southwest division 2 second team and AP honorable mention All Ohio. We are expecting another great season from Lonnie Grayson.

Jaaron Simmons headlines Second Half Athletes 11/8-11/15

In the first week of college basketball we were expecting some big games from Secons Half Athletes. Jaaron Simmons scored 20 points 13 from the free-throw line as Ohio beat Florida Gulf Coast 85-75 in the season opener yesterday. He finished with 20 points 7 assist and 4 rebounds. Ohio is back at home tomorrow tonight and match up against Tennessee St who beat Loyola in their season opener.
Junior Devin Williams also had a very good showing in the season opener. His West Virginia Mountaineers beat Northen Kentucky 107-61. He pulled down 15 rebounds to go with his 18 points. West Virgina faces James Madison tonight.
Western Carolina freshman G Elijah Pughsley became the first WCU in a few years to score double figures in his first two career games. In his season opener he scored 18 points against Universiry of Cincinnati in 97-72 lost. He scored 19 with five deep 3 pointers in their 90-81 win over UNC Ashville. WCU is back in action Saturday November 21 in an away matchup against High Point.
Jalen Avery was scoreless but was second on the team with 4 assist as his Kent State team beat Youngtown 79-70 in their season opener. They travel to Carbondale,Ill and take on Southern Illinois this Wednesday.
Stetson sophomore G Angel Rivera was also scoreless. His Stetson Hatters traveled to Richmond, Va and took on Richmond. They lost, as Richmond shot over 55% from the feild and 50% from 3. Rivera led the team in assist with 5 and steals with 2. Stetson is back in action tomorrow as they travel to South Carolina and matchup with The Citadel.
Freshman G Ahmad Frost UMES (University of Maryland Eastern Shore) Hawks' lost their first two games to Kansas St and Missouri. He got his first career start against Missouri in their second game. UMES travel to South Carolina and take on Wofford this Saturday.
